I was tasked with directing and designing the visual identity for a campaign for the Spring 2023 'Canes Carnival presented by Hurricane Productions, a student programming organization under the University of Miami. 'Canes Carnival is an annual event at the end of the school year that resolves around a central theme and usually contains the typical carnival rides, food trucks, arcade games, and even a concert. Exporting assets included the Icon, Promotional Items, Stickers, a Food Voucher, Posters, Directional Signage, Social Media posts (Instagram Feed, Instagram Story, & Facebook), and Digital Signage.
"Inspired by the Candy Land board game, we want a candy-themed, dream-like visual adaption that consists of pastel pinks, purples, blues, and greens. It would be nice to see a Candy Land-like pathway and some candy elements, like on the board game while emphasizing the carnival assets."
A path to hint at the Candy Land board game, leading over the hills, passing by gumdrop bushes, lollipop and candy cane trees, two candy trucks, under cotton candy clouds, and straight to a carnival landscape. The color palette has pastel tones while adding some more vibrant colors to make things pop out, especially the gradient sky in the background giving it a more whimsical, dream-like feel.
"Since this is an event taking place during the carnival, it needs to have a similar visual identity to the candy theme. It would be nice to have a "cotton candy Cloud 9", surrealistic vibe with the same, or similar, colors: blues, pinks, and purples."
As requested, the theme of this event is a “Cotton Candy Cloud 9" concert, implementing the cotton candy pink and blue clouds from the carnival’s main event graphics, but using real clouds to give the poster a surreal look. The colors, font, and overall design is what best encapsulates the overall ideas that ties back into the look and feel of the carnival while maintaining its own look.
